A Failure Of A Day.

Image
Hi friends! The title of this gmail is a little bit of a lie, and you'll find out why on Tuesday.  We're just about halfway through my time here in the CCM, time is really just flying by. Friday Last week I wasn't able to tell you guys too much about my day because I was writing my email in the morning, but in the afternoon my district and I went to the Mexico City Temple! Here's how it went: Mexico City is ginormous. It was a 45 minute drive across the city to the temple, but I won't lie. While Mexico City is chaotic and gives me flashbacks to the sights and sounds of Kenya, it was kind of beautiful, and I admired all the fancy and chaotic and confusing architecture. We had lunch at the temple at the cafeteria on the property, and I'm sorry to say, but it was some of the best food I have had so far (sorry CCM, temple food is just better). We weren't given much time to enjoy the food before going into the temple to do Baptisms, Confirmations, and Initiatorie...

Beware The Red Chicken (And The Green Enchiladas)

Hi friends! Time already feels like it is flying by, and it's only been 3 weeks into my mission! Saturday I figured I'll mention just a little bit more about today, now that it's a week later. After writing last week's email I went out and played Basketball with my district. I'm not really a basketball player, but we played pretty casually and I had fun being part of the team and getting the ball passed to me. I even got a ball into the hoop at one point!  Sunday Today, my district and I decided to try to join the choir. We sang the song 'Where love is' (In Spanish the song is called 'Donde hay amor') and it was an amazing spiritual experience. The music was beautiful, the feelings were beautiful, and over half of the CCM was part of the choir for that song. The only bad thing that happened relating to choir was that a sister missionary fainted because of dehydration at one point, but they turned out fine.   Along with singing in the choir, me and my...

Why'd It Take Four Hours?

Hi friends! I finally made it to the Mexico MTC, and I can finally update you all of what it's like down here. Please forgive me if this email turns into Spanish though because I'm using a Spanish keyboard so the layout is kinda different. On the bright side though, I can do fancy phrases like ¿How are you? and ¡This is amazing! (Notice the upside down exclamation point and question mark) Sunday I finally hit the one week mark of my being set apart as a missionary, I was able to see my grandparents on my mom's side and say my farewells to them. I realized that because I would be gone for two years, I would need to return the piano books I borrowed from them, and while that was sad, I was able to copy my favorite song from them so I could take it with me on my mission. Monday Today was my final day at home, it was sad leaving my family,  but I tried to make the best of this day.  I finished packing with the help of my mom,  and I tied up as many loose ends as I could. I wa...

Your Holiday, Not Our Holiday!

Hi friends! This is my first mission email, and wow. I'm here! I've spent 18 years wondering if I would go on a mission, and now I am on my first week! This week I was at home doing online MTC, and I will be in the Mexico MTC (the CCM) by the end of next week. That might also mean that my P-day will be on a different day next week. Anyways, I will try to keep you all updated as often as I can. Sunday I was set apart as a missionary today. I was able to have my immediate family members as well as some grandparents be with me as I became an official missionary. Monday First day of my mission! For some reason this day took two weeks to complete, and it was TERRIFYING. It is a big jump going from few responsibilities to many responsibilities, and I have no idea what's going on.  I was able to meet my first companion - Elder Cushing - today. He is from Murray, Utah and will be going to El Salvador for his mission. I am very excited to get to know him and spend time with him for ...
